All About Clear & Colorless Stones: 5 Stone Options For Your Engagement Ring

Are you someone who likes to keep things simple when it comes to your gemstone preferences? In today’s post, we’re sharing different types of clear & colorless stones that you can choose from for your jewelry pieces. Let’s see what clear stones are out there!

Moissanite

A typical go-to clear stone for those that don’t want a diamond, moissanites are a lab grown option that will bring the fire and brilliance! When exposed to light, this gemstone will put on a show and emit rainbow flashes that truly are eye-catching. How cool does that sound? Additionally, this stone is a 9.25 on the Mohs scale meaning that it ranks closely to a diamond, which sits at a 10.

White Sapphire

Next up is white sapphire! This gem comes from the corundum family, which is also where rubies and blue sapphires are from. These sapphires do not contain any trace elements (which is what gives rubies and blue sapphires their coloring), thus, giving them their clear and colorless appearance. A white sapphire ranks ever-so-slightly below a moissanite and has a rating of 9 on the Mohs scale. One thing to keep in mind is that sapphires can attract dirt and scratch easily so mindful wear and proper upkeep is key!

White Topaz

Moving along, white topaz is a silicate mineral that exists in lots of different colors like blue and green. Like sapphire, this gemstone does not contain any trace elements that would give the stone a unique color. In this case, white topaz does not contain chromium! This clear gem sits at an 8 on the Mohs scale.

White Zircon

Not to be confused with cubic zirconia, zircon is in a category of its own. Not only is zircon one of December’s birthstones, it is also a gem that comes in a clear shade! This stone ranks a 6 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and is known to be brittle. If you wear your jewelry mindfully with this clear gemstone in it, you should be ok. Diamond

Last but not least is every girl’s best friend, the diamond. Known as the hardest gemstone in terms of durability, a diamond ranks a 10 on the Mohs scale. Color, cut, clarity, and carat, aka the 4 C’s, are things to keep in mind when looking for the perfect diamond to sit in your dream ring. Diamonds are pricier than the other stones mentioned above, but is definitely worth the investment if it is something you truly have your heart set on and will take care of.
