June Birthstone & Birth Flower Guide: Alexandrite & Rose

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?! Time flies when you’re having fun, and oh do we have another fun post to share with you all. We’ve previously shared the unique properties and products of both of this month’s birthstones, alexandrite and moonstone but this time, we’re talking about this month’s birth flower, rose! This birth flower holds so many unique properties that we can’t wait to share with you. Let’s dive in!

What Is Alexandrite?

Before we chat about all things rose, let’s have a quick refresher on this month’s birthstone, alexandrite! This mesmerizing gemstone is truly a sight to behold with its unique color-changing capability. Why does this happen? This is due to the stones' rare color changing variety of mineral, chrysoberyl! Because of this, alexandrites have acquired the nickname “an emerald by day, ruby by night”.
Speaking of appearance, alexandrites are a strongly pleochroic gemstone, meaning that it can show different colors when viewed from different angles. This phenomena is called “the alexandrite effect”! How cool is that?!

What Is Rose?

Now let’s dive into all things rose! This birth flower is a known favorite among many as a symbol of love, which is spot on! Roses are a symbol of love, affection and beauty.
This birth flower can be found in quite a few places! While most roses are native to Asia, they also have origins linked to North America, Northwest Africa and Europe. Fun fact: in Colorado fossil evidence in the form of rose leaves suggests that plants in the rose family date back to 35 million years ago! How crazy is that?! In Ancient Roman times, roses were seen as a representation of death and rebirth, and were often planted on loved ones' graves.
