March Birthstone & Birth Flower Guide: Aquamarine & Daffodil

Spring is practically here! Know what else is too? A new guide! In previous posts we have shared the many unique properties and the astrology behind this month’s notable birthstone, aquamarine, but this time around, we’re throwing birth flowers into the mix. March is all about daffodils! These birth month items are both unique in their own way and we’re here to share everything that makes them special. Let’s get started!

What Is Aquamarine?

Time for a little refresher! Aquamarine is a gorgeous light, pastel greenish blue gemstone that is part of the beryl mineral family. If you see that the stone appears more blue, that is because it is heat-treated! Want to know a fun fact? Aquamarine gemstones were once believed to be the treasure of the mermaids!

Aquamarine Meaning

This birthstone is derived from not one, but TWO, different Latin words! The first one is aqua, meaning “water”, and the other marina, which means “of the sea”. Aquamarine gemstones hold many unique traits that will bring a whole lot of good into your life! For starters, this gemstone is known as a talisman for protection and good fortune. Not only that, it is known to calm and cleanse you! There will be no negative energy in your life when you wear a piece of aquamarine jewelry!

What Is A Daffodil?

Now let’s chat about this month’s birth flower! Native to northern Europe, daffodils are a pretty, six petal flower that has a trumpet or bell-shaped appearance that is frilled at its edges. Traditionally, this flower is white, yellow or a combination of both but over the years, new colors have emerged! Daffodils can also come in pink and orange - how cool is that?!

Daffodil Meaning

Moving on to meaning, daffodils derive from the Latin word, narcissus, which is also the name that this flower is known to be called, and is the plants’ genus. According to Greek mythology, narcissus was the river god and when he looked in the river, he fell in love with his reflection. Due to this occurrence, he ended up dying and it is said that a daffodil bloomed at the very spot where he died. Crazy right?

Daffodil Symbolism

When it comes to the symbolism of daffodils, oh are there plenty - both good and bad! Whether it’s good luck or a bad omen, daffodils represent something different to everyone depending on their culture or the country that they are from. Let’s focus on the positives though!
This birth flower symbolizes new birth, happiness, joy and new beginnings. Daffodils bloom in the springtime, so it’s no wonder why they most notably represent new beginnings! Just like the aquamarine gemstone, daffodils only bring about the good vibes and will keep the space around you free from any negative energy.
