Origin
It would be great to know the basics of a ruby right? Rubies are a variety of corundum. Corundum is an aluminum oxide mineral that is responsible for giving the ruby its rich, red color.
The stone’s color can range anywhere from a pinkish-red, slightly purplish-red to a highly saturated red. One of the most highly coveted shades is called pigeon blood due to its distinct color. The closest to a true red is most valued. If the stone appears more purplish or orangish, the value of the ruby gemstone decreases. In addition, the color saturation may not be too light or too dark for best value. The ideal ruby is true red in color with medium saturation.
Fun fact! Many cultures have considered the ruby to be the stone of kings. It’s no wonder because of the gemstone’s association with power, protection, and wealth!
