Love & Stories: Marissa and Elijah

High school sweethearts to future husband and wife! Our featured couple for the month of October is Marissa and Elijah and oh do they have the sweetest story. From meeting in biology class their freshman year of high school all the way to having a dreamy proposal, these two have gone through many of life’s stages together all while their love continued to grow. Let’s hear more about Marissa and Elijah’s story!

How Did You Meet Each Other?

Marissa & Eli:

We met in class during our freshman year of high school. We both were in the same biology class.

Was It “Love At First Sight”?

Marissa:

I don’t personally believe in love at first sight. I think I’m more of a person who believes in love at first raw conversion. When we first had a raw honest conversation, I fell in love with his outlook on life and who he was as a person.

Eli:

I don’t know about love at first sight but when I first saw her in my class I definitely thought she was attractive and as we got to know each other more I fell in love with her.

How Would You Describe Each Other In 3 Words?

Marissa about Eli:

Caring, Kind-Hearted, and Humble

Eli about Marissa:

Powerful, Independent, and Beautiful

How/When Did You Know That You Were “The One” For Each Other?

Marissa:

I knew we were the one for each other when no matter what we always never gave up on our relationship. Since we are high school sweethearts, it’s definitely hard going through so many life stages. I knew we were meant to be together when at every stage we continued to get stronger and our love continued to grow bigger.

Eli:

I knew we were the one for each other when I went through a hard life change of getting type one diabetes. The amount of support Marissa showed me and how caring she was through everything really made me realize through sickness and health she will always love me no matter what.

How Did The Proposal Happen?

Marissa:

Eli asked me to marry him in the most perfect way, I couldn’t ask for more. He took me to Milwaukee on Sunday and told me to wear something nice because we might take some pictures down by the lake! He took me to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, and we walked down by the lake and shopped a little. While we were on our way home from Milwaukee little did I know some of our closest family were working together to help Eli with the dreamiest proposal ever. They were decorating a special gazebo that I told Eli earlier in our relationship that it was my childhood dream to get married in! They decorated the gazebo with beautiful lights, pictures of us, candles, and rose petals! When we got to the gazebo, he had his sister and my cousin Cassie taking pictures and videos of everything! Eli then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with my dream ring.
After he asked to marry me, the family came down the hill to congratulate us and take us out for dinner at our favorite hibachi restaurant. Eli also rented us a room that night at a brand-new hotel in our town. When we got to the hotel we had a surprise. Eli’s sister and mom decorated the room! Got us our favorite snacks and drinks! Obviously, champagne too. Eli also was so amazing and called my work to ask if I could come in a little later Monday since he proposed on Sunday because Saturday had a chance of rain! This man melted my heart. I seriously could not have asked for a better man and proposal. It was perfect!

Eli:

I never questioned how I wanted to propose to Marissa. Ever since she mentioned this gazebo was her childhood dream to get married at, I knew it would be the best place to propose. I got a majority of my ideas from Pinterest to help me plan out exactly how I wanted the Gazebo to look. I had a lot of help from my family and her family to set up the proposal the way I wanted it. On the official day of the proposal, I had my ultimate plan all thought out. I was going to take Marissa on a trip to Milwaukee to hang out and enjoy some time outside of our city.
While we were outside of where we lived, my family and Marissa's family all came to the Gazebo to help set up the proposal. I had a group chat with my family members and her family members so they would let me know when everything was ready and set up, as well as when I should leave Milwaukee to get to the gazebo at the correct time for the proposal. With all of their help, we got to the gazebo at the perfect time. I was so nervous but excited and they set up the proposal exactly how I imagined it. After the proposal, we all ended up going out to dinner to celebrate! I also had a room booked for us after dinner!

What Ring Did You Get From Us?

Marissa:

Federella in white gold

What About The Ring Caught Your Eye? Is There Any Significance Behind Why You Picked The Ring That You Did?

Marissa:

We had looked at rings a lot and the first time we went to Rosados Box I chose this ring but with a 2 ct. center stone. I really thought hard about it and realized I didn’t want such a big ring since I am working with children. So we went back and looked again and I picked totally different rings but we both didn't love it as much as the one I originally picked so we decided on getting the Federella with a one and a half ct. center stone instead. I love it so much, it’s everything I dream of and more!

Eli:

I always felt like this ring was Marissa. This ring caught my eye before it caught her eyes. I love the side diamonds and how the center stone sparkled so much. I knew this ring was the one when I was looking at Marissa’s last picks all next to each other and this one just stood out so much and I was secretly hoping Marissa agreed!

Did You Always Have An Idea In Mind Of What Ring Style You Wanted Or Did It Change Over Time?

Marissa:

Yes, it definitely changed. I always thought I would want a cushion cut engagement ring, but when I actually tried them on I realized I loved the look of an oval on my hand. I knew I wanted a bigger ring but not too big, but the shape I wanted definitely changed!

What Are You Looking Forward To The Most About Your Wedding Day Or Marriage In General?

Marissa:

For our wedding day, I am so excited to celebrate us. Being high school sweethearts, I feel like we are so ready and excited to celebrate that with our closest family and friends. For marriage, I am so excited to spend every day with my best friend and I can’t wait to be his wife. I think my whole life I knew I wanted to be a wife and I am so excited to travel together and start our next chapter!

Eli:

On the wedding day, I am excited to get to marry Marissa and celebrate us. For marriage, I am so excited to wake up next to her every day and to be able to spend my time with her and enjoy our days together.

Do You Have Any Advice For Couples In Regards To Marriage, Love, Or Relationships?

Marissa:

When it comes to any relationship, be sure to cherish your time together. Prioritize date nights, this is something we try really hard to do. Always understand that healthy relationships take work and knowing how to communicate and be understanding of one another can make a huge difference.

Eli:

Communication is key. You need to be understanding and choose your person and never give up.
