Love & Stories: Nadia and Mikey

When you know, you just know - and that’s what happened to our April featured couple, Nadia and Mikey! We got to chat with the couple about everything from how they met, all the way to their sweet proposal across the pond! Let’s see what the couple had to say!

How Did We Meet?

Nadia and Mikey met when Nadia took a random trip to Denver for 3 nights in 2021 to visit a girlfriend from graduate school. Nadia had never been to Denver before but on her first day of visiting, she had said to her friend, "I see myself living here!". While she was visiting, her friend convinced her to download the dating app Bumble which Nadia initially refused, saying she wasn't ready to meet anyone. After talking with her friend more, she finally agreed to download Bumble. She set up her profile and then forgot about it until the next morning. When she opened the app the next morning, she spent less than 10 minutes on Bumble before seeing Mikey. Nadia looked at his profile and saw that he was a therapist that was also interested in self-discovery. This was really refreshing for Nadia to see and she "swiped right" on Mikey, only to be excited that he had already "swiped right" on her. From there, Nadia told Mikey she only had one more night in town and Mikey immediately asked her out to dinner. They went to dinner in Downtown Denver and spent six hours walking all around the city together!

Was it "Love At First Sight?"

We both definitely experienced attraction at first sight, much more beyond the physical. We were both recently out of relationships, so I think parts of us tried to find reasons as to "why it shouldn't work" and "why we should wait before jumping into another relationship", but we both realized pretty quickly that those voices weren't real and we had every reason to believe why our relationship would be amazing. It only took about a week before we both had decided we were fully in it together.

Describe Each Other In 3 Words:

Mikey to Nadia: Beautiful, fierce & compassionate
Nadia to Mikey: Wildly thoughtful, wise & tender

How/When Did You Know That You Were "The One" For Each Other?

I think we knew on our first date, even though our conscious minds didn't want to admit that. Our first date was filled with so much depth, honesty & curiosity and that only kept increasing as we got to know each other. It really didn't take too long before we knew we were able to vocalize our love for one another & there was never anything that got brought up for either of us that made us question if we were "the one" for each other. It just only became more and more clear as time went on!

How Did The Proposal Happen?

We were traveling in Scotland and spent a morning hiking Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano in Edinburgh. We got to the top of the cliff, sat down and were overlooking the city, talking about how much we loved Europe and traveling with one another. Mikey then pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him! Afterwards, we spent the whole day celebrating and playing in Edinburgh and it was so much fun!

What Ring Did You Get?

We ended up choosing a custom-made 2ct champagne sapphire Layla with a yellow gold band! She's such a beaut!

What About The Ring Caught Your Eye? Is There Any Significance To Why You Picked The Ring You Did?

I knew I didn't want a diamond, but I had no idea what stone I wanted. It took me months of research before I found the champagne sapphire, and the moment I saw them, I just fell in love with them. I kept coming back to the Layla, again and again, and it was the only ring out of thousands I looked at that I felt was ME. I wanted something very delicate, feminine, romantic and timeless... and she's definitely all of those things!

Did You Always Have An Idea Of What Ring Style You Wanted Or Did It Change Over Time?

When I was younger, I was definitely more into rose gold and art deco style rings (which I still love!), but as I've gotten older, I've just gained a love for simple, classic solitaire rings!

What Are You Looking Forward To Most About Your Wedding Day Or Marriage In General?

We are having a sweet, whimsical and romantic themed wedding at the Denver Botanic Gardens with a string quartet & an earl grey flavored cake! It's going to be a very small, intimate wedding and we're looking forward to a wedding with as little stress as possible. As far as marriage in general, we're both looking forward to how marriage symbolizes a deepening of our union and our commitment to one another. It feels really important for us to be married for that reason. We have so much fun together that we both know marriage is only going to amplify that for us. We are excited to travel the world, to buy land in nature where we can build a house and grow as a family together!

Do You Have Any Advice For Couples In Regards To Marriage, Love, Or Relationships?

Well, you have two trained therapists here who have worked with couples for over 15 years combined ;)
Our advice is do not stay in a relationship based on someone's "potential". Listen to what it is you truly desire and ask yourself, "Am I the best version of myself in this relationship?". If not, it's time to get curious.
On the other hand, it's important to remember that any healthy relationship WILL challenge you, push your edges and serve as a mirror to where you still need to grow. This can feel terrifying but is absolutely the most rewarding thing when you lean in.

How sweet was Nadia and Mikey’s love story?! We would like to thank them again for sharing their story with us, and we wish them nothing but the best on their journey together!
