How did you meet each other?
We met in September of 2007. I was a freshman and Steven was a sophomore at the time. Immediately I knew he was one of the funniest people I had ever met! He always had the bus laughing. We remained friendly throughout high school but had different friend groups. In 2011, my senior year of high school, a mutual friend of ours had a bonfire that we both attended (thanks, Brett!). It was there that we reconnected and began hanging out almost every day for a month straight. On May 31st, he asked me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history.
Over the past 8 years, we have grown so much together. We have been through college graduations, Steven started his farm (a lifelong dream), I began a new career, we moved in together, and now we are planning our wedding. Going through the ups and downs of life together has made our relationship that much stronger, and we are so excited to see what the future has in store for us as we enter a new chapter of our journey. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to share my life with.
Was it “love at first sight”?
As much as I would like to say it was love at first sight, it was not haha. Steven was a HUGE jokester and would constantly crack jokes at everyone’s expense. We were just really good friends at the time and the feelings of love developed several years later. What I did love was his hair! Oh my goodness that boy had the most beautiful head of blonde, shiny hair…so full heart eyes there haha.
How would you describe each other in 3 words?
Saige for Steven: caring, funny and determined
Steven for Saige: smart, funny and gorgeous
What do you admire about each other?
Saige: I admire Steven’s love for others and his drive to constantly better himself. He is incredibly selfless and kind, basically the best person ever! He is also always searching for ways to improve himself whether it's personal or for his business. Steven is so invested in making sure he is always the best he can be, which is very admirable.
Steven: I admire how great of a person Saige is. I have never met anyone as giving, strong, kind, and understanding as her. She is always thinking of others, and how she can help them. She is also very goal-driven, like when it came to school. She graduated high school and immediately jumped into college shooting for her Master’s Degree in Public Health, which she achieved. All along working full-time, keeping track of her GPA and graduating with highest honors.
How/when did you know that you were “the one” for each other?
I think we knew it was meant to be after we had been dating for a few years and honestly, we just grew on each other. We both have learned so much from the other and continue to do so, which keeps our relationship going. It also helps that we have a very similar sense of humor, we enjoy a lot the same hobbies and hold many of the same values in life. We are both very family-oriented and that was a huge plus on both sides. We consider ourselves lucky that our families get along very well together and we often have blended family outings which are great. In fact, the only “proposal request” I had for Steven was that I wanted our families to be present whenever he decided to propose.
How did the proposal happen?
The proposal happened on December 22, 2017, at Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA after six years of dating. I am a Christmas fanatic and absolutely LOVE all things to do with the holiday…which Steven knew. What I didn’t know, is that Steven coordinated with all of my immediate family members to make the proposal happen!
On the day, I was under the impression that my immediate family (mother, grandmother, niece, cousin, and aunt) were all heading to Edaville in the evening to see the Christmas lights and ride on the train that takes you through the woods all lit up with Christmas displays. Steven had told me that he needed to work that night and couldn’t make it. This was super believable because Steven is a butcher and farmer, and being so close to the Christmas holiday, I knew he had a ton of orders to fulfill. I was kind of bummed about it but I understood. So the entire time I was at Edaville with my family I was texting him photos of the displays and of course, wishing he was there.
After about an hour of checking out the Christmas lights, my mom decided that she wanted to get a family photo in the beautifully decorated gazebo on the other side of the park to cap off our night. She was very determined to get a photo at that specific location, despite me pointing out other potential photo opportunities that were closer to us which I thought was odd, but hey, maybe she just really liked that gazebo haha. So, after trekking across the park we arrived at the gazebo and prepared for the photo. My aunt was holding the camera while I posed next to my grandmother, mother, niece, and cousin when all of a sudden I see Stevie come walking up the steps to the gazebo with his parents in tow. I WAS STUNNED.
At this point, I had a feeling something was up, but I was just happy to see him! All of a sudden, in what seems like a complete blur, Steven ended up on one knee and I lost it! Full tears, ugly crying, couldn’t hear a word he said (thankfully, my aunt recorded it)! He opened the ring box and said the words I had been dreaming of since we started dating in 2011, “Saige, will you marry me?” It was pure magic. The single best day of my life. We hugged for about 5 minutes before I answered with a very excited” YES!”…and I finally put the most beautiful ring on my finger.
What ring did you get from us?
The ring that Steven proposed with is the Rachel engagement ring in 14k rose gold. It is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for me in every way. I love how the ring fits my hand and the oval shape really helps to elongate my otherwise short fingers. I have recently chosen my wedding bands and will be purchasing the matching diamond band to the Rachel ring, along with the Original Naomi band.
What about the ring caught your eye? Is there any significance behind why you (or your significant other) picked the ring that you (or they) did?
For months before the proposal happened, I was searching through the Rosados Box Etsy shop and loved every ring I saw. However, what drew me to the Rachel ring is how dainty and timeless it is. It is the perfect blend between classic and glamorous. I loved how dainty the band and halo were, and the center stone is just beautiful.
Once I knew that Steven and I were serious and this relationship could head to marriage, I knew that I wanted a ring that was not only affordable but ethically sourced. I love that every ring from Love and Promise Jewelers is conflict-free and uses recycled materials, which was very important during the ring selection process.
What are you looking forward to the most about your wedding day or marriage in general?
For the wedding day, we’re looking forward to exchanging our vows in front of our closest friends and family and starting our new journey together. For marriage in general, we are excited to continue growing together and creating a loving life for our future children.
Do you have any advice for couples in regards to marriage, love, or relationships?
Enjoy every step of the process. Steven and I decided to have a longer engagement than most, 2.5 years, which gave us time to really enjoy just being engaged before stress of planning the wedding. The proposal/engagement/wedding process doesn’t have to be rushed. Take it all in and enjoy every step with your partner. I promise you won’t regret it!
