What Is A Padparadscha Sapphire?
So what exactly is a padparadscha sapphire? Well, this gem is a variety of corundum, which is an aluminum oxide mineral that forms in crystals and ranks a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. How does this stone get its unique color? This is due to additional trace elements of chromium and iron during their formation.
The padparadscha sapphire coloring is a unique blend of pink and orange. Some happen to be color zoned with a pink and yellow hue. Presently, lighter padparadscha sapphires are also called peach champagne sapphires, peach sapphires or occasionally, blush sapphires if they are on the more pink than peach side. The more saturated the color, the more valuable the gemstone is.
Additionally, when picking out a padparadscha sapphire, clarity is something you will want to look out for. Light tones can reveal inclusions and any sort of cloudiness will make the coloring of the sapphire dull. At Love & Promise, we carry AA and higher in quality which means all of our cuts, color, and clarity are all at least above average plus! We don’t carry stones that are poor cuts or heavily included. Shopping for a quality lifetime piece is always simple and fairly traded at Love & Promise!
Meaning
Padparadscha in ancient Sanskrit is used to describe the color of the tropical lotus flower. But wait, there’s more! Padparadscha is derived from the Sinhalese word for an aquatic lotus blossom, which is a peculiar salmon color. Overall, a lotus flower is a symbol of enlightenment and spiritual beauty. How sweet is that?!
Origin
Where would one find this gorgeous gemstone? Padparadscha sapphires can be found mainly in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Tanzania. Experts claim that true padparadscha sapphires come from Sri Lanka, which for the longest time, was the only place that you could find the stone.
This sapphire had a spotlight put on it when Princess Eugeine got engaged in 2018. She received an oval cut padparadscha sapphire engagement ring that was surrounded by a diamond halo. The ring almost appears to resemble her mother Sarah Ferguson’s ring, but she had a ruby as her center stone.
What Makes This Gemstone So Rare?
The thing that makes this stone so rare is that most people are unaware of their existence! This gem is coveted among collectors and is valued above the many kinds of sapphires out there. Also, due to its uncommon color and lack of artificial treatment, it makes the gemstone highly-coveted among those who know about it.

The padparadscha sapphire not only looks great, it will make you feel great too! The gemstone can bring about clarity and make you feel calm, and represents joy, vital energy, and foresight. If you have certain life goals that you would like to achieve, this gemstone will help you with that.
