The Perfect Pair: Do's & Don'ts of Safely Wearing Certain Ring Styles Together

Sometimes rings may not sit quite as nice together as you want them to and that could potentially lead to some unwanted issues like loose stones or scratched wedding bands. Nobody wants that to happen, right? While most of our rings have a matching band to compliment the engagement ring, we understand that you may want to shake things up and create a wedding set look that suits your style. Be warned though, there may be some limitations! We’re here to share some of the do’s and don’ts of ring pairings, as well as some examples that make the perfect pair. Let’s explore!

Lower Basket Style

Three stone, cluster, or low cathedral ring styles can be a little tricky to pair due to their curvy/dropped nature. Have no fear, this problem can be solved! A lower basket ring combo like our Dixie & Riri shown below make a great match since the engagement ring sits perfectly within the Riri. No gaps, no stones knocking into each other - a dream come true!

Single prong and straight-style bands are not the best choice to match with this ring style because prongs can easily become bent or loose when they hit each other. If you truly prefer a straight-style band, be sure to pair it with a plain band or a bezel band like our Petite Bubbles.

Open Gallery Style

When it comes to open gallery engagement rings, they should not be worn with an engagement ring, unless they are soldered together. Since there is no basket under part of the stone, the center stone is exposed and can chip and/or scratch when it makes contact with a band. Yikes!

What’s the solution to this conundrum? A curved band, of course! This will ensure that no harm will come to your precious jewelry pieces. One open gallery duo that would look oh-so sweet together is our Kimberly & Aldis! The Aldis band has just the right curve that will not run into the center stone of the Kimberly.

Cathedral Style

For the most part, you can do no wrong with pairing your cathedral style engagement ring with a band (unless it features diamonds on the basket, then you’ll want to be cautious). One cathedral style combo that everyone knows and loves is our Skinny Flora & Petite Naomi! These rings fit perfectly together because the engagement ring sits up a bit “taller” and the band won’t run into the ring, creating the ultimate simple and sparkly wedding set.
